BOUCHES DU RHONE
Traditions of Martigues
Direction Martigues, the «Venice of Provence». Straddling the Mediterranean and the pond of Berre, this former fishing port, with the multiple canals who gave its nickname, its fishboats and its houses with colorful facades, has fascinated many painters like Delacroix, Corot, Loubon, Ziem or Dufy.
During the morning, free time to discover the fish market, the port of Carro, a small fishing village that has preserved its former soul.
Then, a guided visit by a former fisherman from the exhibition «Entre Mer et Collines», a true museum tracing the history of fishing and local traditions.
Lunch at the restaurant, then go to the Toulmond quay to attend a demonstration of traditional jousts.
